The Prophets

Isaiah and Micah were two Old Testament prophets; basically they would tell people what God was saying, often letting people know what would happen before it happened! Pretty neat. We read in the books of Isaiah and Micah that God would send His chosen Saviour to the earth; He would be the One to put things right between man and God. The nativity story shows us that Jesus was this promised Messiah.

Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and they will call him Immanuel which means God is with us.

Isaiah 7:14

2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For those who lived in a land of deep shadows - light! sunbursts of light!

6-7 For a child has been born - for us! The gift of a son - for us! He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counsellor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings. He’ll rule from the historic David throne over that promised kingdom. He’ll put that kingdom on a firm footing and keep it going with fair dealing and right living, beginning now and lasting always. The zeal of God-of-the-Angel-Armies will do all this.

Isaiah 9:1-2, 6-7

O Bethlehem in Judah…a ruler will come from you who will shepherd the people of Israel.
